AdMob report - iPhone blows competition in mobile Internet usage

April 1, 2009 by Tole

In the report for February 2009, AdMob reports that iPhone holds 50% US smartphone Internet traffic and 30% on worldwide scale.
I saw some critics that it stands only for showing ads by AdMob and that AdMob publishes much ads on specialized iPhone apps which most are not accessible on other devices at all.

But there is another thing which is not contained in their reports: AdMob does not shows ads on regular websites, and that is where iPhone completely blows of competition. Although Symbian and the others usually have capability to show standard websites, it is simply not usable enough. Symbian users just don't use their devices for Internet browsing. Ok, they browse mobile web, but that segment is still small comparing to the usual net.

Apple announced iPhone as a "breakthrough Internet device" because it uses a mobile Safari browser that has a common core with the desktop version. And really, Safari in iPhone is so good in viewing web pages that there is little need for specialized mobile versions of website. Usage of multi touch capability is so brilliant that new users can learn how to use it just in few minutes. For first time users are having near desktop quality on their mobile device, and they love it.
When 3G come to Europe, mobile providers offered special data packages for iPhone subscriptions only because it is what the iPhone users need. And that also lowered the mobile Internet prices, e.g. I have 512MB package for price of just 10$.

Knowing that Apple sold more than 30 million iPhones and iPod touches it is a more than good reason to add Jaipho to your site and ensure that this growing segment is even more satisfied with your site.
